Explore Proven Technology in an Innovative Format
Law enforcement agencies can increase efficiency by performing rapid ID wherever suspects are encountered, keeping processing costs down while maintaining police visibility and resources on the streets.
Being able to check a subject’s fingerprint against a database outside a police station is
not new. However, bulky devices and high prices in the market have prevented rapid or
fast ID from becoming adopted on a larger scale.
HID’s NOMAD™ 30 Pocket Reader is the solution to both these problems. The NOMAD 30
Pocket Reader for Windows®, Android™ and iOS® is the smallest plug and play fingerprint
reader on the market for law enforcement. Thanks to HID’s Integrale™ Mobile Biometric
app, the NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader can be bundled with smartphones to easily perform
rapid or fast identification wherever you are. Its mobile nature is perfect for identifying
a subject in the field, eliminating the need to transport the person to a police station for
this process.
Follow the guide for easy setup of the NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader with Integrale Mobile
Biometric.

Logging Into HID Integrale™
Mobile Biometric for iOS®
1. Connect the iPod Touch to Wi-Fi. Find the app and tap to open.
2. Log into the app using your username and password.
3. Next, you will see the blank Transactions screen, as you do not yet have any transactions.
Get ready for the first enrollment
4. Now you are ready to enroll. For demo purposes,
we will enroll two index fingers, your photo and some
biographic data.
(Note: We recommend
that you capture a selfie as
part of the biographic data
enrollment. To change the
camera to the front facing
camera, tap Menu (as seen
above), then tap Settings
to enable the front camera
options.)
5. Now tap the + button in the lower right corner of the screen.
6. You will now see two transactions you can perform: Enroll and Identify. Tap Enroll.
User Acceptance Acknowledgement
By using this Integrale Mobile Biometric demonstration
application you acknowledge that: Your fingerprints, photo and biographic data are collected for demonstration purposes and temporarily stored in a secure cloud-service managed by HID and located in the United States. Your data is used to enroll your identity to identify you based on your fingerprints. Your data is not used for other purposes or shared with third parties. Your enrollment data is automatically deleted from the service 90 minutes after enrollment. You will be required to re-enroll after 90 minutes in order to perform the demonstration
7. The workflow is shown. To start the process, make sure that your NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader is plugged in.
If you see the NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader with an X across
it (as shown in the upper right corner of the screen below),
then the NOMAD is not connected to your device.
Tap the fingerprint button at the bottom of
the screen.
8. The NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader will light up indicating it is ready to capture. Place your left finger on the fingerprint sensor as shown below. When the fingerprint has been captured, you will see the image appear on the screen briefly, and then the workflow will move to capture your right finger. Place your right fingerprint on the NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader. Next, the workflow will advance to capture your photo.
9. The software will draw a green box
around your face. Tap the capture button
at the bottom of the screen to capture the
image.
10. Complete the process of entering your
biographic data.
We have prefilled the biographic data page
for convenience, but you may wish to make
some changes to personalize your record.
To Submit your data, tap the check in the
lower right corner to submit your enrollment.
11. You will now see the Transactions screen where you will see the
status of your submission.
12. Your transaction will now be submitted to our server for
enrollment. If you have been previously enrolled, you will see a
red color bar to the left of the transaction. Otherwise, you will
see a green color status.
Perform an identification transaction
1. Start the Identify transaction by first tapping the + on the Transactions screen.
2. Tap Identify

Green means ‘no hit’ — you have not been
found in the database.
5. Tap the transaction to select.
6. Tap the document button at the bottom of the

Automated Capture Process
Once a law enforcement officer starts the workflow in the smartphone app to capture both index fingers, illuminated “landing lights” indicate that the device is ready to capture. The automated capture feature makes sure an image is captured automatically, when the image quality meets recognized image quality standards such as the FBI’s -
Haptic Feedback
A haptic motor* in the NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader gives a vibration as an additional indication of successful image capture notification. This feature combined with the landing lights make it easy for officers to know that a good print was captured, saving valuable time for unnecessary quality checks during an operation. It also allows the officer to avoid close contact with potentially dangerous subjects for more than a few seconds. -
Images in Direct Sunlight
The patented, capacitive thin film transistor (TFT) enables the reader to capture superior fingerprint images that meet FBI standards such as Personal Identification Verification (PIV) whether in indirect or direct sunlight. The same technology also facilitates the capturing of dry or dirty fingers, or when fingerprint surfaces are inked or stained.
-
Superior Durability
The top surface of the capacitive sensor on the NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader module includes a glass coating that protects the sensor by making it more resistant to scratches or impact. It is more durable for mobile use cases thanks to this protection layer combined with an Ingress Protection (IP) 65 rating for dust and water. The sensor has been tested for up to 1 million touches without a decrease in performance.

Hardware
Unlike many other bulky rapid ID solutions, the NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader works with any mobile phone or iPod touch devices. This makes our rapid ID solution not only incredibly supportive of the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) principle, but also much more affordable than other solutions.
Software
Integrale Mobile Biometric works perfectly with the NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader, configuring workflows as needed as well as collecting and submitting biometric and biographic data. For even more flexibility, the NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader is delivered with the NOMAD 30 SDK, which facilitates the writing of your own mobile phone application.
Cases
We offer two different protective cases. The folio case supports onehanded operations, thanks to a strap on the back. The inclusive case transforms all individual items into a complete rapid or fast ID solution. You can choose to have the hardware permanently embedded into the adhesive folio or have a removable option for maximum flexibility. All major mobile phone models, iPods and tablets can fit into a folio case. The flip case, which protects the sensor and prevents scratches, is ideal for occasional uses of the biometric reader.
